#TheBestOf2012 Top 101 Songs

Like every year, this playlist represents the sum of all the music I liked. It never has been an easy job and sometimes I even stress on how the review should be arranged and what song deserves to be the first. Even though it’s just my opinion in music, I don’t like to alienate myself from what’s going on in music and obey to my own needs, I try to be as democratic as possible even though Gangnam Style by PSY will never be in this list (doesn’t matter how huge it is on youtube and how many Justin Biebers it beats).

This year was not that interesting because it had everything as expected, I didn’t feel that something new was coming to the music scene but, despite the fact of that, some of my predictions came true: like Fiona Apple’s amazing comeback or the return of RnB waiting for 2013 that will bring a new album by D'Angelo that will mark the definitive comeback of the genre. There were some things that didn’t make the cut of the list that are worth mentioning. The end of Blur, the end of Girls, the soundtrack of The Man With The Iron Fists, Red Hot not making the money to produce a tribute to Arthur Russell that would’ve been the best collaborative album since Dark Was The Night.

2012 was a Hip Hop year. Yeah! Godspeed You! Black Emperor had a new record. Yeah! Cat Power experimented with electronic music. Neneh Cherry did some jazz with The Thing. There were new things in pop like Haim that will be HUGE in 2013 (not Lana Del Rey HUGE…but HUGE). But Hip Hop had very interesting things to say, it became more socially relevant and with Death Grips it became harsh and in your face. There were no experimental takes on hip hop in the level of Shabazz Palaces, unless you want to put on that mix stuff like THEESatisfaction and BADBADNOTGOOD or TNGHT, but when Rock, Pop and Electronic music don’t shine, Hip Hop always takes control. It had a New York Scene revival with Joey Bada$$ and the California Hip Hop took another level with two albums of Death Grips.

There were also the gays…Mykki Blanco, Zebra Katz, Le1f, making bold street queer hip hop (that didn't make the cut) and Frank Ocean coming out of the closet (maybe) confessing he once fell in love with another man, making Frank Ocean the first mainstream artist linked to hip hop to come out.

What better way to say goodbye to 2012 than remembering the best music it had and discovering the new music you passed by.

This time around the playlist is full of interesting and fun songs, not as complex as songs in past years. Maybe because my life is less complicated these days and I take time to enjoy less complex music (that's always a good thing).

The year is coming to an end and with it Obama has been reelected, McKayla Maroney won a medal in the olimpics and made a funny face, Obama and McKayla took the picture that makes the cover of the playlist with both of them making another funny face and Chavez's health remains uncertain but the world moves on gracefully. One never know when things will get complicated again so sit back, relax, take time to listen the playlist and enjoy the ride.

Without further ado: Hope you enjoy The Best Of 2012 and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
